What is hormone replacement
therapy for women?
As you age, your body undergoes inevitable changes as a result of a decrease in your hormone levels that can negatively affect your entire body from your brain to your bones. Low levels of your hormones can have a negative effect on your health including loss of mental focus and clarity, an inability to sleep well, anxiety, and/or depression. Physically you can lose lean muscle mass, gain fat, and develop brittle bones*.
Our Hormone Replacement Therapy can help reverse some of these changes and help you feel like a new person!
Feeling better is as easy as 1, 2, 3...
Our doctors provide a comprehensive medical evaluation and identify WHY you are having negative symptoms with a simple blood test.
- Lab Test
A simple blood draw will give our doctors the information they need to evaluate your health.
- Report & Consultation
After reviewing your labs, your doctor will create a comprehensive & customized report to share with you. Together you will create a plan that aligns with your health needs and goals.
- Monitor & Adjust
Your doctor will continue to monitor and adjust therapies as needed.
How is hormone replacement therapy different at XSculpt?
We treat both men AND women of all ages - many centers only focus on testosterone replacement for elderly men. We provide a comprehensive health service by offering medical therapy through our integrative medicine division to help treat any medical conditions that may be picked up at your initial health and hormone laboratory evaluation, so you don’t have to coordinate with another health provider.
We also have a network of personal trainers and nutritionists that can provide guidance on diet and exercise so you can experience the maximum benefits for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Finally, if desired, we offer non-invasive and surgical body contouring procedures for people who are interested in further enhancing their results.
HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
1. What is Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy, sometimes referred to as “natural hormone therapy” is the use of hormones to treat hormone imbalances or deficiencies that may cause many health problems.
5. Is hormone therapy safe?
It’s absolutely safe when under the supervision of qualified and trained physicians who can monitor your treatment.
6. What are the benefits of hormone therapy?
There are many benefits of hormone therapy. These benefits can be physical, mental, and medical in nature.
Physical benefits that you can experience are weight loss, increased muscle mass, increased endurance, and more energy.
Mental benefits can include more focus, better productivity, feelings of vitality, increased libido, and improved sleep.
Medical benefits include protection against heart attacks and stroke, lower chance of diabetes, decreased risk of developing dementia, and prevention of osteoporosis (brittle bones).
This is just a short list of the benefits you may experience by optimizing your hormones!
7. How are the hormones administered?
Hormones like testosterone and estrogen are administered by specially made pellets that are inserted through a tiny incision made in the skin under local anesthesia. These pellets slowly dissolve over the course of months to allow for a steady and consistent release of hormones into your circulation.
Pellets are inserted by a health care practitioner who is directly trained and/or supervised by a surgeon. Surgeons are experts at incisions, implantations, and suturing thereby minimizing the uncommon complications of pellet extrusion, bleeding, bruising, and superficial incision infections.
8. What are the advantages of hormone pellet therapy versus creams or injections?
*Testosterone replacement therapy can be expensive, require daily consumption, and, in many cases, need to be carefully timed with their partner’s needs for normal sexual activities and pleasure. Hormone pellet therapy is the only method of testosterone therapy that gives sustained and consistent testosterone levels throughout the day for three to six months (depending on if you are female or male) without any “roller coaster” blood levels of testosterone as seen with other therapies, which can result in mood and energy fluctuations for the patient.
The hormone pellets are pure hormone that is not metabolized into byproducts by going through the liver, stomach or skin. This delivery system allows your body to use the right amount of hormone from the pellet as the blood flow surrounding the pellets picks up what is needed.
There is no need for daily patches or creams which can cause skin irritation, rashes, itching, and most importantly, dangers to family and friends due to inadvertent exposure during physical contact. There is also no need for frequent, painful, inconvenient testosterone injections which classically cause a fluctuation in T levels. There are oral tablets that fit in between your gums and upper lip, but these can be difficult to keep in place, bitter tasting, can cause irritation to the gums, and an incidence of an increase in liver cancer has been reported.
9. How long does it take to experience the benefits from hormone therapy?
Hormone pellet therapy, there is a “waiting time” before you experience some of the benefits because it takes time for your body to absorb the hormones. This waiting period varies depending on which hormones are optimized but can range anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. However, once the hormones reach their optimal levels, you will stay at that level until you stop therapy.
10. How long do I have to be on hormone therapy?
Hormone therapy is a long term treatment regimen. Unfortunately, there is no way currently known to “permanently” optimize your hormone levels. Once you stop therapy, you will go return to your baseline hormone levels. The longer you are on hormone therapy, the greater the benefits you will experience.
Does Hormone therapy cause weight gain?
*In the beginning of treatment, water weight gain can occur from the rapid change in hormone levels. However the water weight usually goes away once your body adjusts to treatment and optimal hormone levels are reached at around 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, a low salt and carbohydrate diet with an increase in water intake can minimize this water weight gain if it comes to a point where the increase weight is uncomfortable. In extreme cases (which is rare) a mild diuretic can be prescribed.
