Book a consultation Our Philosophy
As a child growing up in Fortaleza, Brazil, I always knew I wanted to be a doctor. During my journey of becoming a doctor, I found myself more interested in practicing functional medicine. Getting to know my patients, their lifestyle and health history allows me to provide the highest quality of care and develop a unique plan for each and every patient I serve. Traditional medicine too often focuses on treating a problem or a symptom. But how do we prevent it? How do we identify the root cause? More importantly, what can we do to optimize your health and keep it?
I have been practicing in the Chicago area for over 10 years and have seen the health system become increasingly broken and impersonal.
I believe that practicing integrative medicine, and providing a holistic approach will lead to a higher level of care and ultimately better health outcomes.
INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE FAQ
1.
What is integrative medicine?
Integrative medicine is a broad term for personalized care that focuses on the whole person, is based on a strong patient-physician relationship and includes non conventional medicine modalities. Integrative medicine includes many forms of appropriate therapeutic approaches provided by different professionals. It integrates complementary and alternative approaches to treat and prevent diseases recognizing values that promote and sustain a healing environment.
2.
What is the difference between functional medicine, alternative medicine and integrative medicine?
Functional medicine and Integrative medicine are not the same. Integrative medicine is a broad category that includes all forms of non conventional, complementary alternative medicine. Functional medicine has some of the same values of Integrative medicine but it includes extensive laboratory testing(i.e. blood, saliva and stool tests) to find the root cause of the symptoms. Both Integrative and Functional medicine may use herbal supplements, vitamins and minerals to treat and prevent disease.

4.
Is Integrative Medicine the same as Primary Care?
Many Primary Care Physicians practice Integrative medicine but not all. The job of a Primary care physician is to provide preventative care and treat most common diseases with or without the help of Integrative Medicine. Many patients are now looking for Physicians who do practice integrative medicine along with conventional medicine because together they can provide better health outcomes.
5.
What can I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit with your Integrative Primary Care Physician will include a thorough evaluation of your medical history, a physical and any testing that would be needed. You will be able to discuss your health concerns and goals in depth. Because each patient will receive care that is personalized, you will receive more face time with your doctor unlike traditional practices where the average time a person gets with their doctor is 20 minutes.
6.
Can I use insurance?
Many practitioners that provide personalized, concierge medicine, and integrative medicine do not charge insurances. Insurance companies do not yet pay for the extra time spent on patients in order to provide care that is tailored specific to you.
