Gynecomastia insurance do they cover surgery?
You have been researching gynecomastia treatment and wondering if your surgery will be covered by health insurance. Gynecomastia is a medical term to describe swollen or enlarged breasts in men. According to Cleveland Clinic, gynecomastia is very common and affects approximately 50 to 65% of males. Even though this condition is experienced by many boys and men, gynecomastia surgery is usually considered a cosmetic procedure, which makes it ineligible for coverage in most cases.
However, if your gynecomastia is caused by an underlying health condition, it is possible for a gynecomastia insurance to cover your procedure, but this is less common.
How much does gynecomastia surgery cost?
Gynecomastia surgery cost depends on what your chest needs, not a one-size-fits-all number. Pricing changes based on the grade of gynecomastia, how much gland tissue we need to remove, whether you also need liposuction for clean borders, and whether there is loose skin or a revision component. Surgeon experience and facility fees also factor in.
In Chicago, gynecomastia surgery often falls in the $6,000–$12,000 or more range, with simpler cases at the lower end and more complex or revision cases higher.
At XSculpt in River North, we keep pricing transparent and give you a clear plan after your consult. We also offer financing plans, including CareCredit and Cherry, to help you spread payments out if you prefer.

Check with your insurance provider.
Individual health insurance plans and coverage differ greatly, therefore we recommend you call your gynecomastia insurance provider to determine if any part of your gyno procedure is eligible for coverage.
Our clinic does not accept gynecomastia insurance payments directly. The total cost of your gynecomastia procedure is due two weeks prior to your surgery date. If your health insurance plan provides reimbursement, our staff can assist with necessary medical records that may be requested by your health insurance company.
Are there available gynecomastia treatments without surgery?
If you are looking for non-surgical treatment options for gynecomastia, you may be able to try certain medications, testosterone replacement or hormone therapy, and making diet and lifestyle changes. However, depending on the severity of your condition, these treatments may not be effective as or get the results you want. You can discuss alternative treatment options for gyno with Dr. Adajar or Dr. Truong during your consultation.
